What is IRC?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a real-time text communication protocol on the Internet. Created in 1988 by Jarkko Oikarinen, it allows users to chat in groups in "channels" or privately. It's one of the first real-time chat systems and remains very popular today.
What is the history of IRC?
IRC was created in 1988 in Finland by Jarkko Oikarinen. Originally designed to replace a chat program called MUT, IRC quickly spread worldwide. It played a crucial role during the Gulf War in 1991, enabling real-time information sharing. Today, although other chat platforms exist, IRC remains appreciated for its simplicity, reliability, and loyal community.
How do I register my nickname?
To register your nickname, use the command /msg NickServ REGISTER password email. Keep your password secret and never share it with anyone.
How do I create a channel?
To create a channel, simply join it with /join #channel_name. To protect it, register it with /msg ChanServ REGISTER #channel_name
What should I do if I'm being harassed?
Don't respond to provocations. Take a screenshot and immediately contact a moderator on #help. You can also block private messages with /mode your_nickname +D
How do I become an operator?
Operators are chosen by the administration team based on their behavior, seniority, and involvement in the community. There is no application process.
Why is my nickname "already in use"?
If your nickname is registered and you disconnected without using /quit, it might remain "ghost" for a few minutes. Wait a bit or use /msg NickServ GHOST nickname password
How do I share files?
File sharing is possible via DCC, but we recommend being very careful and only accepting files from trusted people.
What is flooding?
Flooding means repeating messages or actions quickly. It's forbidden because it disrupts discussion and overloads the server. You risk being banned.
Are messages moderated?
Yes, moderators monitor discussions to ensure charter compliance. Anti-spam and anti-flood bots are also active.
